there is usually a perfect spot to be in just in front of the breaking wave

HitchSafe - keep your keys safe when you’re surfing - Surfing Product Review

My rear bumper has this great little shelf that I always stick my keys on when I head out for a surf. This spot has always worked great, but with more and more people heading to the beach, break-ins are becoming a frequent occurrence. These break-ins have motivated me to find a more secure solution than my low-tech key hiding.

After searching the Internet I came across HitchSafe. The company offers a secure storage product for trucks with trailer hitches. It is a simple design and tough enough to deter anyone from getting in your car while you’re out getting barreled.
To my surprise, the installation only took a few minutes. The unit slid right into the receiver and bolted into place with ease. The instructions were a breeze to follow and the hardware was easy to work with. The only real tool you’ll need to install is a small screwdriver which allows you to change the 4-digit security code on the face plate. This was easy to do; you turn a screw on the inside of the unit, set the code you want, and then turn the screw back to its original position.

Once the code is set, the drawer that houses your keys slides into the steel sleeve you installed into your trailer hitch. The drawer is bigger than I thought and can hold your license, credit cards, cash and just about anything else that size. Just slide the drawer into the receiver, run your thumb over the 4-digit dials and scramble the code. The hitch also comes with a black cover that goes over the combination plate and makes it look like part of the car. Toss it on and you’re good to go!

This little unit works great and I highly suggest everyone gets one. If you don’t have a trailer hitch on your car, you’re missing out and should get one. I can confidently say that having HitchSafe hold my keys makes me worry less about my car when I’m in the line-up and I’m sure it will give you the same peace of mind.
