Layne Beachley said today she’s planning to retire with the end of the 2008 women’s world surfing tour, according to reports. Beachley has literally dominated female surfing and is one of the most recognizable female surfers. “This is a bittersweet decision for me as I feel like I feel like I’m surfing the best I have in my whole career,” Beachley said in reports. “But the time is right. I’m motivated to find new and challenging ways to achieve different things in my life.” Beachley has been on the tour for twenty years, having begun at the age of 16.
