The 2009 Mark Richards Pro at wrapped up on Sunday at Merewether beach in Newcastle, NSW, Australia, with former World Tour surfer, Travis Logie of South Africa taking home top honors over World Tour surfer, Drew Courtney of Australia, in a high scoring and incredibly hard fought final. Travis prevailed over Drew with twin 8.75s, posting a total heat score of 17.50 out of 20 to Drew’s 16.45.
Travis and Drew fought their way through the quarterfinals earlier on Sunday, knocking out Aussies, Nick Vasicek and Michael Spencer. Also fighting through to the semifinals were Aussies Sam Lendrum and Clancy Dawson, who took down Luke Cheadle and Jarrad Howse. In the semifinals, Travis knocked out Sam Lendrum, while Drew took out Clancy Dawson, in a very close heat.
