While the points on offer for this event have little allure to traveling pros, the Murasaki Pro Kitaizumi in Japan is on live, now through Sunday. In the men’s WQS portion of the event, a who’s who “B” team of local Japanese talent have already eliminated the handful of foreigners who entered the event, while their top notch Japanese brethren are socking it out on the European leg of the WQS. The LQS (Longboard Qualifying Series) is live now, if you’re into that sort of thing… not that there’s anything wrong with that. Bonga Perkins from Hawaii and a fellow named Kevin Connelly from the US (isn’t he on Entourage?), just dominated their heats in the LQS section, securing places in the LQS Quarterfinals. We should really see some great local action when the WQS portion resumes a little later, picking up in the Round of 16 and going through the Quarterfinals. The event is being held in craptastic knee to waist high surf, but that doesn’t seem to slow the competitors down.
Tune in and enjoy!
