there is usually a perfect spot to be in just in front of the breaking wave

Ridiculous surfing consumerism

Surf and Music: The Good Life

In Mexico where I live, the left break is right in front of a hippie-ish campsite with a really tight small bar/restaurant. Every now and again, the bar- which usually plays great music- will be blastin’ something rockin’, or some hippies will have a whole drum circle going on. I can’t speak for anyone else, but I LOVE hearing music while I’m surfing. Sometimes, if there isn’t music, I’m usually humming some fast song while I’m paddling out, usually a song that I have stuck in my head. When there actually is music, it totally pumps me up! I paddle faster and harder and the waiting in between waves is much more enjoyable. There is nothing like a good drum beat to make you paddle ten times faster. Don’t get me wrong, I also love and appreciate the serenity that comes with silence only broken up by the crashing waves, but there is just something about surfing to good music that really adds a nice spice. They do have now-a-days, the waterproof ipod, but I think it is kind of ridiculous and I would prefer the silence to one of those.
