I guess all those years of growing up watching Seinfeld during dinner has influenced me to notice all the smaller observations that Jerry’s comedy was based upon. My mind definitely wanders on days when the waves are flat, but it’s not limited to the water. I thought I’d share some things to notice during your session, and what they could possibly mean to you.
Dry hair when paddling out: This usually means less frequent waves are being caught, allowing someone’s hair to dry. Never a good sign, as that could mean the waves are pretty flat or long wait times between sets.
A full parking lot: This one’s pretty self explanatory. This is the main reason why I usually only surf during the week.
Light blue foam boards: Ah, to be a board rental shop near La Jolla Shores, here in San Diego. It’s the well known haven for these soft beginner boards, and the frequency of them in the water at any lineup can give you an idea of the skill level in a lineup, as well as your safety awareness with other surfers and their abilities.
More to come, and feel free to post yours in the Comments section.
Hi Kris,
I read your article about surfboard recycling and would like to knbow which places accept the boards and who makes the concrete with recycled boards. Thank you very much and Happy Holidays.
Cheers,
Chris
