Surfing and Cars - The hipster Smart Car…

We’ve all seen them rolling around - the two seater Smart Car looks like you could pick it up and roll it down a hill end over end. Small, light and a two seater, you’re not going to fit a log inside that puppy! That said, we’ve heard from owners that shortboards as small as a 6′6″ will fit inside, albeit stretching from the hatch to the dashboard on the passenger side. The passenger seat does recline flat, so that should work, minus the passenger. That said, if you’re 6′6″, you’re not going to fit inside the car to be able to drive the thing. The obvious benefit of a Smart Car is parking - be it in a city, or better yet, at the beach. This is as close to a motorcycle as you’re gonna get.

The Smart Car is 8.8 feet long. If you don’t give a damn what you look like when driving your car, the Smart Car is a great option for shredders with less than 7 feet of stick. Strapping the 9′6″ Tak on top? Probably not.

These smart cars go for around $15,000, and are obviously fantastic on gas mileage (but not as much as you might expect): 33 mpg in the city, 44 on the highway. That’s around the same as the Toyota Prius hybrid, which is huge by comparison and you can fit a 7′6″ in there (if you wanted to!).

You could use the Smart Car as your surfing transportation, enduring the stares and laughs of fellow surfers at your break, but even with the great parking, you’ll still need quarters.
