The Honda Element is one of the ugliest surfing transportation contraptions on the market. I mean, it looks like a World War II Volkswagen Thing or worse, the Scion. Ugly as hell. You’re not going to be pickin up chix in that beast - it looks like it is wearing a helmet But, fact is, that people who own them and surf swear by them. Here’s why:
You can fit your entire quiver of twelve boards in this puppy, and best of all, you can sweep out any sand that may collect in the back, super easy. See that little side door looking thing? Well, the driver door and it swing apart, so that your Honda Element has CARGO doors. Now that’s pretty cool.
The Honda Element splashed on to the scene in 2003, when Honda used it as a ginormous prop at the $175,000 Honda Element U.S. Open of Surfing presented by O’Neill. Touting itself as “an innovative new vehicle designed for outdoor enthusiasts and extreme sports action” is actually about right. These guys clearly though of us when designing it. Kudos.
Coming in at around $20,000 plus tax etc., and getting between 20 miles per gallon in the city and 24 on the highway (certainly not the 405), the Honda Element, despite its ugly factor, is probably a good choice for the traveling surfer.
