…Later that night, these two local boys found me at our campsite and told me that they’d been in the water while I was surfing and liked my surf style. They offered to let me use their “extra” board anytime I wanted. I found out later that his 5′10 “extra” board was the guy’s only board, and he totally came out of the water just to let me use it. **Side note: I found most El Salvadoreans to be some of the nicest people we met in Central America.** We surfed the next morning, but the rain had hit us hard the night before and it had dumped all this debris (a.k.a huge tree trunks, twigs and black leaves) into the water through the river-mouth. Regardless, there is really nothing like surfing right in front of where you are staying. I got out of the water covered in little black flecks, but the surf was so worth it! I surfed with the local guys a few more times and they suggested that I surf in a surf competition in the neighboring town. ‘Hmmm,’ I thought, ‘that might be a great idea…’ ….(to be continued)
