Wave basics for Surfers

We don’t pretend to be experts on waves here at DailyStoke.com (just experts at finding good surfing stuff…). So when it comes to waves and forecasting, we trust our local pro forecasters, no matter where they’re at. Virtually every local surfing forum has a forecast in residence, and surfers everywhere rely on their casts to get information on what’s shaking at their break. We strongly believe that each individual surfer should learn how to do their OWN forecast, as it greatly increases ones appreciation for what…errr…makes waves and what’s going to result in disappointment when you walk up the boardwalk to see mush, or down the beach to see flatness.

One of the best - bar none - resources we’ve found with respect to wave basics for surfers is from StormSurf. StormSurf was created by Mark Sponsler, a Cocoa Beach, Florida native now living somewhere near San Francisco. Mark and his team were instrumental in predicting surf conditions for Mavericks, where we understand Mark has actually surfed. Cool.

Anyway - if you want to learn more about wave basics, click on this link to be brought to StormSurf which will tell you everything you need to know about how waves are created.
