World Qualifying Series power week – 6 Star Prime and 6 Star running through Sunday

Following on the heels of the 4 Star Protest Vendee Pro in France, and the earlier 6 Star Prime Drug Aware Pro in Western Australia and 6 Star O’Neill Coldwater Classic in Tasmania, the World Qualifying Series kicks into overdrive this week with two high ranking events running through Sunday April 26th.

The 6 Star Prime 2009 Quiksilver Pro Durban presented by Virgin Mobile began its waiting period on Monday (which was unfortunately called a lay day). With 3,500 points and $20,000 on offer for the winner, we’re sure to see a solid showing. The heat sheet for the event already reads like a who’s who of up-and-coming professionals and seasoned stars from around the globe, including names such as Owen Wright (AUS), Jay Thompson (AUS), Sunny Garcia (HAW), Jihad Khodr (BRA), Yuri Sodre (BRA), Travis Logie (ZAF), Dusty Payne (HAW), Mason Ho (HAW), Dan Ross (AUS), Julian Wilson (AUS), Nic Muscroft (AUS), Greg Emslie (ZAF), Victor Ribas (BRA), Jadson Andre (BRA), Ricky Basnett (ZAF), Yadin Nicol (AUS), Brett Simpson (USA), Matt Wilkinson (AUS), Raoni Monteiro (BRA), Drew Courtney (AUS) and the California Gudauskas clan, Dane, Tanner and Patrick, among many others.

The 6 Star 2009 Estoril Quiksilver Pro will run concurrently with the Durban event, officially kicking off on Tuesday. 2,500 points will be available for the winner of the Lisbon, Portugal based event in what is shaping up to be a real international affair with a distinctive Euro flare. Already on the charts for the event are German Portugal locals, Marlon Lipke and younger brother Melvin Lipke, Miky Picon (FRA), Tiago Pires (PRT), Aritz Aranburu (EUK), Joan Duru (FRA), Gony Zubizarreta (ESP), Eric Rebiere (FRA), Jonathan Gonzalez (CNY), Liam McNamara (HAW), Nat Young (USA), Marc Lacomare (FRA), Nico Von Rupp (DEU), Lincoln Taylor (AUS), Masatoshi Ohno (JPN), Leonardo Neves (BRA), and Andre Silva (BRA), among many others.
