Kelly Slater’s girls

bar_rafaeli

Most of us love Kelly Slater's surfing and wish we could be this guy. In and out of the water, he has a life most of us can only envy. A charmed life, as we learned in our interview with Kelly. Wanted to take a few moments to point out in photos a few more reasons to worship this guy. I'm sure I'm missing a few good ones, and he's probably had a slew of "regular" girls, some of which probably even top these in the hotness department. Take careful notice of his appreciation of Leonardo DiCaprio's … [Read more...]

Introducing Sonia Garcia – the world’s hottest competitive surfer?

sonia1

Plenty of magazines and online sites (Dailystoke included) have written articles about this or that up and coming hot professional surfing chick.  Up-and-coming stars like Bruna Schmitz (hot), Alana Blanchard (hot), Kassia Meador (hot) and Erica Hosseini (hot) are names that you will frequently hear associated with surfing hotness.  There are a few notable others, and then other online and print references to beautiful surfer girls usually focus on some fine lady paddling on an SUP (gag!) or inadvertantly … [Read more...]

Mine! — World Tour priority rules, part one

surfing_priority_rules

In an ASP World Tour event, who has the right of way in a three man heat?  Once again, I turn to my trusty ASP Rulebook.  Though the man on man heats following Round 1 of a given World Tour competition have a completely different set of rules governing a surfer's right to a wave, the rules for a three man heat are pretty straight forward.  The rules of the three man heat pretty much follow the unwritten laws of the lineup, where the surfer on the inside position has the right of way, snaking … [Read more...]

Ryan Helm showcases talent, creative sponsorship and hat style FAIL

ryan-helm-hat-1

For those of you who don’t know him, Ryan Helm is still one of the best surfers on the planet. The 35 year old returned to Florida a few years back, after going native down in mainland Mexico for half a decade. He stirred up some serious upsets at a series of Sebastian Inlet events and even did a little damage on the WQS. Now running his own surf school down in Florida, Helm is still holding down major sponsorships with the likes of Quiksilver and BP Invigorate. Yep… you heard that right. … [Read more...]

Cain Kilcullen – killing it Irish style

In recent years, Cain Kilcullen has repeatedly been called the best surfer from Ireland. Take a quick look at one of his surf videos and you’ll quickly understand why. The 22 year old Cain comes from Enniscrone, County Sligo, midway between Counties Donegal and Galway on the west Irish coast. Though he has earned accolades for his acrobatics on the water during his free surfing sessions, Cain is also the current men’s Irish national champion. He recaptured the title for a second time, after … [Read more...]

Erica Hosseini is perfect (other than the fact that she’s goofy foot)

erica-hosseini

She's from Newport Beach, California, she surfs way better than you, and... oh yeah... she's pretty friggin hot too.  If there is any imperfection in this otherwise perfect human, it's the fact that she's goofyfoot.  We'll let her slide on that for now. Need to see more proof?  Check out her personal website, which is oozing with photos, videos and personal details: http://www.ericahosseini.com/ Erica has all intentions of making it to the big leagues.  After a long and impressive … [Read more...]

Forever number two – Cheyne Horan

cheynestarfin

While Rabbit Bartholomew and Mark Richards were Bustin' down door and winning World Titles, fellow Australian, Cheyne Horan was busy coming in second place.  Cheyne was runner-up to the crown a record four times, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1982.  While others on tour were moving from a single fin to twin fins and then to thrusters, Cheyne fought the trend and stuck with his non-contemporary shapes and single fins.  In an even more bizarre design twist, Cheyne further bucked the trend of fellow pro surfers … [Read more...]

Where are the air shows?

There was a time a few years back, when there were the tour guys and the "air guys", and never betwixt the two did meet.  Guys on the pro tour either couldn't or wouldn't consider trying airs in heats.  First off, there was always the chance they could fall or blow the wave, and second, judges didn't know how to factor airs into the judging criteria.  In fact, just a few years back, there was only a handful of guys on tour that could keep up with the "air guys"; and these were supposed to be … [Read more...]

Cruisin’ with Rob Machado: Dailystoke Interview

rob-machado1

I’ve been a huge fan of Rob Machado for years. Like his legion of followers, I've watched him mature from his OP Pro Junior win back in 1991, to his tense World Tour runner-up finish in 1995, to his heartbreaking 2001 season and beyond. I even had the good fortune of seeing Rob completely own a solid day at Seaside reef back in the earliest of his Momentum days. As a youngster myself at the time, I was grom-abused (at the threat of a serious beatdown) into ringing the doorbell of Rob’s parent’s … [Read more...]

Dane Reynolds’ perfect zero ride!

Now known as the best surfed zero point wave in a pro contest, many of us fans still feel burned by the call of interference against Dane on what would have been his heat winning wave. Down by 3.5 points, Dane took a end of heat left that may very well have been a 10.0 ride and certainly would have ushered him into Round 3.  Dane was taken out by Danny Wills, who intentionally forced an interference on Dane by dropping in behind the peak on a wave he and everyone else watching knew he would never … [Read more...]
