Kelly Slater’s Rebel Tour back on? So says the interweb…

rebel-tour

Just when you thought it was dead in the water… our friends at Surfers Village picked up on a bit of gossip from Australian Surfing Life - Kelly Slater’s “Rebel Tour”, AKA the breakaway tour, AKA the Champions Surf Tour, is alive and kicking. “According to those rumours, the CST has signed a slew of surfers including Dane Reynolds, Andy and Bruce Irons, Ry Craike, Taj Burrow, Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, Mitch Coleborn, Clay Marzo and, of course, Kelly himself.” "Rumours heard by … [Read more...]

Classic Bruce Irons footy

This is some old throw-back footage of Bruce Irons talking about wanting to win all the money he can while still young, and then getting barreled for football fields. It's amazing how light he can be on his feet while surfing such powerful waves. At times it looks as if it could blow him right off his board. Wait, that came out all wrong. What I mean is the dude looks like he's not even standing on his board, as if hovering above it, and then somehow rips through a full rail cutty sending buckets … [Read more...]

Looky what I found – Runamuk Vintage Footage

123

I came across an old throw-back mixed footage (some never before seen) clip of Bruce & Andy Irons, Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, and Kelly Slater on the Runamuk blog. According to Runamuk it's some old used/un-used footage they've gathered from the last couple years filming. Well.. They put it together, threw in some Block Party, and posted it up on their blog. So go get a cold one, turn up the speakers, and enjoy! … [Read more...]

Archy, The Movie – a Surfing Movie Review

heroes-612x816

I was hoping to see this actual cutback pictured here in Archy, the Movie last night. And even though I looked for it, I don't think I saw it. Did I miss it? I've stared at this picture for I don't even know how long. Archy is the latest film from Bill Ballard and Billygoat Productions, and the movie does not disappoint. Featuring the story of Matt Archbold, the movie is full of amazing footage from an era whose story isn't always told. It's a must-see right up there with Bustin' Down the Door. The … [Read more...]

In Like Flynt

gerr-hall-of-fame

Comic relief and big wave charger, Brad Gerlach, was one of the few surfers added to the Surfing Hall of Fame in 2008. Others included were WCT contest kingpin, Mike Parsons, Surfline.com founder Sean Collins, and the one and only Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew. Kind of late on that one, don't we think? Wingnut beat him there?! Anyway, I don't know if it was Gerr's fashion sense from the 1980's that got him the nod, or the history-making liquid mountains he's dragged tow-in partner, Mike Parsons, into? … [Read more...]

The Volcom House Tour, Part 3.

d

Though this time it's not so much a tour, as it is watching an out of shape, hairy rocker learn how to surf. The band "Valient Thorr" played a set on The Volcom House porch, and fittingly right, seeing the beautiful ocean out front lead to a yearning urge to give it go. Or a little friendly pressure from Kaiborg and the boys. Either way, not many people can stay they caught their first wave at Pipeline. Not even Jesus! Even though this is probably exactly what that might look like. Minus the tattoo... … [Read more...]

A different angle with RVCA

capture3

This is a cool little screen-shot from a new RVCA clip of Tanner Praire, Nolan Hall, and "Punker Pat" Towersey, doing this doubles type filming at Church's. You're going to wanna watch the first wave, and see how it ends. Think US Airways, and that Hudson River landing. Except this dude isn't all cool like the now-hero pilot, Chelsey Sullenberger. Instead he pretty much panics and hits the eject button. RVCA has this really cool vibe going with longboarding. If you check out their blog you can … [Read more...]

The Volcom House Tour, Part 2.

v2

"This is where Bruce Irons sleeps, and no wonder his girlfriend's pregnant"- Kai Garcia. That's a soon-to-be classic quote from part 2 in Volcom's "The Volcom House Show". This time we get to see inside the famous Gerry Lopez house, and as you'll see it's quite a step up from the first show. This home is more like a palace than a house. Bruce Irons gets the royal treatment with the third floor bedroom all his own. Those are the kind of perks that come along with being Volcom's golden ticket. Did … [Read more...]

Bruce Irons Talks About his DC Ads

capture1

The DC Shoes website has a new feature up where Bruce Irons talks about some of the ads he's done with them over the last 10 years or so. He touches on the ad (shown) they did in Indonesia where Bruce cut himself, and DC ran a picture of him caring to the wound. A bunch of whiny parents wrote letters in complaining it was too gnarly for their kids to see, and eventually DC had to run an apology ad where he comments "Give me a break, some people are dumb". So true, because - as you can see - the ad … [Read more...]
