This week we take you way off the surf map to the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. 16 miles from the southern shores of New Foundland, the tiny French island territorial collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a little bit of France in the North Atlantic. Unlike Quebec, Saint Pierre and Miquelon are French through and through, and are not bound by the dual language dilemma that plagues the Canadian province. I can’t make this stuff up. The press release almost reads like an April Fool’s Day joke. Following the first European event of the 2009 World Qualifying Series, the 4 Star Protest Vendee Pro, there has been a little bit of movement in the current top 34 surfers. Why top 34? Protest Vendee Pro – Joan Duru takes home the win for France

The 4 Star WQS Protest Vendee Pro wrapped up in France on Sunday, with 19 year old rising French talent, Joan Duru taking home the win for France. Duru tackled an army of European and international talent on his way to victory. Starting off seeded in Round 2, he advanced with a second place finish behind Frederic Robin (REU), ousting Oli Adams (GBR) and Miguel Mouzinho (PRT). Protest Vendee Pro – Wednesday recap

The 2009 4 Star WQS Protest Vendee Pro got a late start on Wednesday, running through the remaining 4 heats of Round 2 in stormy conditions, before calling it a day. Though it was an abbreviated day of competition, when the event resumes, the stage is set for Round 3. The standout of the day was Marc Lacomare (FRA) who destroyed his heat with 17.16 out of 20.
