The 2010 Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast kicks off next weekend, ushering in the start of the 2010 ASP World Tour. The problem - you made plans to take away your significant other for a romantic weekend, leaving you computerless and unable to watch the opening heats. There's an app for that.  Worry no more.  Quiksilver just released an official app, Quiksilver Live, for all iPhone and iPod users out there to share in the festivities with their deskriding brethren.  The app is free for all, … [Read more...]

Nathan “Noodles” Webster still totally rips.

Remember Noodles? He was on the world tour at one point, and then kind of fell off on the scene for a bit. Well, he still completely rips (of course) and this is a feel-good clip of him cruising through Australia on a motorcycle scoring pretty much perfect beach breaks. If you can find anything to complain about here, then something is seriously wrong with you, dude. You're way too uptight, and maybe a new-found drug habit might chill you out.. By drug, of course I mean warm summer tubes, because … [Read more...]

The first event of the 2009 ASP World Tour season has come and gone, and I’m sorting out how I’m going to rearrange my team for Bells Beach. Let’s take a look at how I did with my selection for the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast. My team for the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast: Kelly Slater, Taj Burrow, Josh Kerr, Julian Wilson, Jordy Smith, Dane Reynolds, Michel Bourez and Nathaniel Curran. As is evident, I stuck with all regularfoots, given their better historical performance in the … [Read more...]

I know it's still early days and much will change as the season unwinds, but let's take a look at the current ASP World Tour rankings following the 2009 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.  For the time being, the surfers are only as good as their finish in the first event of the season.  Gold Coast golden child, Joel Parkinson finds himself in the well deserved pole position, with Brazilian kid wonder, Adriano de Souza nipping at his heels.  Coming in at equal third are Aussies, Taj Burrow and Mick … [Read more...]

Brazilian male surfers..... cockroaches of the seas. The bane of the surfing world, hated by all other than themselves. I kid, I kid!!! Though they're not exactly winning popularity contests in the english speaking world, the Brazilians have really stepped up their game on the ASP World Tour, with Adriano de Souza making an incredible showing in the first event of the 2009 season. Adriano's second place finish to local boy, Joel Parkinson on the Gold Coast is officially his highest finish … [Read more...]

A huge local crowd turned out at Kirra to cheer their hometown lad on to victory, despite the rain and windy weather. Joel is the big story of the day, scoring two ten point rides on his way … [Read more...]

Claiming it in the big leagues

Billabong Pro Tahiti

While watching the Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast last night, I had quite a few chuckles at Brazilian, Jihad Khodr’s expense, as every time one of his hands was raised above waist level, the commentators for the event were calling it a claim. They were mostly heckling him and having a bit of fun, as his performance for the event has been unbelievably solid, as he just narrowly missed making the quarterfinals. The Brazilians on tour have taken a lot of flack over the years for their apparent inability … [Read more...]

Round 4 of the 2009 Quiksilver Pro on the Gold Coast kicked off on Tuesday morning in Coolangatta in wind-swept right hand barrels brought on by cyclone Hamish off the Australian coast. Floridian, CJ Hobgood won the first heat of the day, narrowly topping a very in-form Jihad Khodr of Brazil, while twin brother, Damien Hobgood, took out Slater slayer and event wildcard, Julian Wilson. The other goofyfoots weren’t so lucky, with Hawaii’s Fred Patacchia falling to top Brazilian, Adriano de Souza, … [Read more...]
