Kelly Slater’s girls

bar_rafaeli

Most of us love Kelly Slater's surfing and wish we could be this guy. In and out of the water, he has a life most of us can only envy. A charmed life, as we learned in our interview with Kelly. Wanted to take a few moments to point out in photos a few more reasons to worship this guy. I'm sure I'm missing a few good ones, and he's probably had a slew of "regular" girls, some of which probably even top these in the hotness department. Take careful notice of his appreciation of Leonardo DiCaprio's … [Read more...]

Ryan Helm showcases talent, creative sponsorship and hat style FAIL

ryan-helm-hat-1

For those of you who don’t know him, Ryan Helm is still one of the best surfers on the planet. The 35 year old returned to Florida a few years back, after going native down in mainland Mexico for half a decade. He stirred up some serious upsets at a series of Sebastian Inlet events and even did a little damage on the WQS. Now running his own surf school down in Florida, Helm is still holding down major sponsorships with the likes of Quiksilver and BP Invigorate. Yep… you heard that right. … [Read more...]

The story behind THIS Kelly Slater vid – Talking with Morgan Maassen

If you haven't seen this YouTube vid of Kelly Slater saying "Hello, Rincon", you should. We tracked down the dude who made it, and he just so happens to be Santa Barbara local, Morgan Maassen. What's more, and more important, is that this surf filmmaker is only 18 years old, and already creating some pretty amazing surfing videos. Morgan Maassen is the real deal. We recently caught up with Morgan to find out more about how Slater knocked the logger down... DailyStoke: So I’m surfing around, … [Read more...]

Rip Curl Pro Search heading to the Caribbean

You read it right. The 2010 Rip Curl Pro Search is heading for an island near you! We know the region, but where exactly will the event be held? We'll just have to play a little wait and see. While the Caribbean plays host to a variety of islands and land masses, my money is on Barbados. It's ultra laid back, easy to get around, English speaking and most importantly, has a number of world class waves that are among the most consistent surf spots within a few thousand miles. Soup Bowls always … [Read more...]

rebel-tour

Just when you thought it was dead in the water… our friends at Surfers Village picked up on a bit of gossip from Australian Surfing Life - Kelly Slater’s “Rebel Tour”, AKA the breakaway tour, AKA the Champions Surf Tour, is alive and kicking. “According to those rumours, the CST has signed a slew of surfers including Dane Reynolds, Andy and Bruce Irons, Ry Craike, Taj Burrow, Rob Machado, Shane Dorian, Mitch Coleborn, Clay Marzo and, of course, Kelly himself.” "Rumours heard by … [Read more...]

2009 Billabong Pro Mundaka – Parko out, Slater dominates

2009-billabong-pro-mundaka-kelly-slater

The 2009 Billabong Pro Mundaka finally went live again on Monday. After a truncated start way back on the 5th of October, where the event only ran through the first eight heats of round 1, the nod was finally given to resume the event during what appears to be one of the best of the remaining days in the event window. Roughly translated - Mundaka isn't really putting out, but the boys decided to give her a go anyways. The biggest news on Monday was Joel Parkinson's early exit. Parko took home … [Read more...]

They’re still just your average pro.

While watching the recent ASP World Tour event at Trestles on the interweb (Gosh, when are they ever gonna get on t.v.!), I started to notice one trait that pro-surfers possess that has seemingly drifted past the majority of us "mortals": Pro surfers are actually human. Yes, it's shocking, but true. The curtain of movies, highlights, magazines spreads, and youtube clips that has been drawn over our eyes actually hide the truth that surfing is hard - even for pros. It's sorta like how Hollywood … [Read more...]

2009 Hurley Pro at Trestles – Fanning wins, Reynolds goes down fighting

2009-hurley-pro-fanning-wins

The 2009 Hurley Pro at Trestles concluded on Saturday in inconsistent conditions, running through all of round four and the finals. While waves and conditions were less than stellar, the final day's performances were solid. Former world champ Mick Fanning returned to his machine like form, taking down all challengers and improving his chances in the title chase. Many think Mick was just focused on shutting down the other hopefuls, to help his good mate Parko have a clear run at the title. Unfortunately … [Read more...]

Day three of the 2009 Hurley Pro kicked off with a exciting start on Wednesday, with clean but inconsistent conditions. Local Californian and fan favorite Dane Reynolds through a huge frontside reverse air to take the first win of the day over Australia's Ben Dunn.  Former World Tourer and fellow Californian, Rob Machado followed, shutting down the current world tour leader and man who would be king, Australia's Joel Parkinson. The third heat of the day was the one to watch, with Kelly Slater … [Read more...]

Hurley Pro at Trestles – Slater surges, Taj falls

2009-hurley-pro-slater-day-1

The 2009 Hurley Pro at Trestles got off to an exciting start on Sunday in small and textured conditions. Opting to use the old contest format with all surfers surviving through the first round, there were no shocking first round upsets, but there were a few surprise wins. Kelly Slater posted the highest heat score of the day with an 18.50. He got an early 9.0 and backed it up just moments later with a 9.5, leaving his California cohort Rob Machado and Australia's Ace Buchan virtually helpless … [Read more...]
