About This Video:
News reports have been pouring in since March 16th,2011 when the sad news that big wave surfer Sion Milosky had passed away while surfing at Maverick’s in Half Moon Bay, CA. Maverick’s is well known for its treachery and challenging condition and isn’t for the faint at heart; Mark Foo died in a similar scenario at the acclaimed break in 1994.
Milosky was a seasoned big wave surfer from Kalaheo, Kauai. Respected by some of the most elite surfers in the world, many claim Sion surfed the biggest wave ever paddled into! At just 35 years old, the accomplished charger had already conquered some of the biggest surf on the planet and truly pushed limits of what is possible in big surf. Sion took the sport seriously and was recently gaining more and more recognition for his contributions to the sport and his big wave achievements; recently inking a healthy sponsorship deal with power-house brand Volcom.
Sion seemed to accept the risks associated with waves of that magnitude and approached the ocean with respect but everyone has their limits. A rouge 25 footer and a two wave hold down are suspected to be the cause of his passing. Good friend and fellow big wave hell-man Nathan Fletcher was the one that found Sion’s body about 20 minutes after his last set wave.
Sion will unfortunately be leaving a loving wife and two young daughters. This has prompted Volcom to start a fund to assist the family during these tough times. Please visit this link to help support the family by donating what you can: http://www.volcom.com/news/article.asp?articleID=5218.
In closing, the staff at the Dailystoke would like to send our deepest condolences to the Milosky family and wish them well during this difficult situation. Sion was a hero to many and will be missed by all…Rest in peace.
